Using nothing but a old tape recorder, they go looking for EVPs, using every phrase and question they could steal from Ghost Hunters. There is also a creepy old woman staying there who can talk to the spirits and predict the future, but if that isn't bad enough, there is of course the investigations themselves. The only thing this film uses in order to frighten you is random things jumping out at you, which most of the time aren't what you expect them to be. There are only a couple guests, giving them the perfect opportunity to investigate.
#The innkeepers review movie#
They had the nerve to give this movie an R rating and call it the must see horror movie of the year, but truthfully, its slightly more scary than a Disney movie! An old hotel is going out of business and the two remaining employees decide to investigate the long history of ghost sightings at the establishment. This film is so clique, stealing almost everything from other films of the same genre. They had the nerve to give this movie an R I was looking for a good horror movie, that fell under the radar, to promote for halloween, and I was told that the Innkeepers was that film, but it wasn't. It's a legit horror that's part of my permanent collection.I was looking for a good horror movie, that fell under the radar, to promote for halloween, and I was told that the Innkeepers was that film, but it wasn't.

It's definitely not the tame thriller it works hard to make you think it is. The Innkeepers is a cool ghost story that owes much of its impact to its slow buildup. It's also like The Exorcist 3 in that it has an epic jump scare that you won't see coming even when you expect it. It reminds me of The Exorcist 3 in this way.

It's never boring, the pacing is solid and when it gets real, it really gets real. I normally don't like horror movies that are slow to get started but this one gets a pass. The first sets up the story, the second sets up the scares and the third rips your face off. The movie is split into 3 chapters: The Long Weekend, Madeline O'Malley and A Final Guest. They're just so natural with one another, they keep the movie interesting even when they're coming up dry on the paranormal front. But that's not a bad thing, the story is interesting and both Claire and Luke share some hilarious banter. It's more like a lighthearted thriller, like something you'd find on network TV. For most of the runtime it doesn't even really feel like a horror movie. The Innkeepers is such a fun quirky little horror.

They've been desperate to catch some kind of proof of Madeline's existence for years and these last days are their last shot.

And it's no coincidence that Claire and Luke, both amateur paranormal investigators, work here. The Yankee Peddlar is said to be haunted by the ghost of Madeline O'Malley, a woman who hung herself in her hotel room ages ago. It's the final days in business for the historic, dilapidated, Yankee Peddlar Inn and front desk clerks Claire and Luke are pulling double shifts until the doors shut. The Innkeepers was directed by Ti West (who also directed The Sacrament and The ABCs Of Death) and stars Sara Paxton (from Static and Shark Night 3D), Pat Healy (from Run and Carnage Park) and Kelly Mcgillis (from We Are What We Are and Stake Land). It's about the final days of a historic hotel and a couple of front desk clerks desperate to see some paranormal action before it shuts down forever.
